I didn't ignore it, I'm merely asking others what they think. I have vibrams, and I'm not going to squat heavy in them right now because I'm not confident that my feet are strong enough. I do anything in grass in vibrams but when it comes to concrete I need/want another shoe. This is why I'm interested in a pair of shoes for lifting and then some kind of track flat for everyday things.
Trust me, I'm in the grass without shoes hopping and jumping all of the time as you can see in the majority of my videos on youtube : anfeyd.

anybody have any recommendations?
what type of sneaker would you recommend to buy, if i was gonna do a lot of walking around in it, playing ball, some sprinting, lifting, and jumping?
I have been wearing bball shoes since i was little, but i'm tired of them, they are so bulky and they restrict any type of ankle movement so much. I need something strong and that will last a decent amount of time, i have flat feet also? Any recommendations?
I like the idea of flats or waffles. I have now heard a ton of positive feedback on the use of vibrams so If they will fit you you can go with them.

Thanks for the replies everyone. A second shoe question, especially on the track flats: I'm assuming you mean indoor ones right, ones that don't have the metal holes for spikes?
And I'm still interested in finding a pair of shoes to lift in with a flat sole that would not compress much. I use indoor soccer shoes now but I'm looking for something even better. Does anyone know if throwing shoes are a good option? I've never seen them before so I don't know about the how flat they would be.
You would be correct in your assumption.
I now know a ton of lifters and athletes who train in vibrams. They do all their squats/deads/etc in them and love em. They do complain that during the first week or so their feet got sore but assumed that it was their feet getting stronger. Now none of their feet get sore and they love them…

Alright guys I will give you an update on the shoe situation. I followed the discussion and read the article about foot function. I then decided to give the vibrams a try. I bought the classics as I wanted the least amount of support possible.
Usually I would wear a pair of Nike Free 5.0 V4 for warm-ups and jumping, sprinting etc.and then switch to chuck converse taylor low cuts for weight room work. I was always annoyed by switching shoes but hey it takes hard work to be good doesn't it? ;)
So today I did everything in the Vibrams. I warmed up and did some VJs. It was weird as you are literally jumping barefooted which makes you think you don't jump as high but in reality you are just missing the 2 inches from the sole of the other shoes. I don't know how high I jumped, I have to re-measure my reach with the shoes on.
Afterwards I went for some front squats, back extensions and walking lunges. When I was done, I had the worst "butt lock" ever. I was short of cramping up in the glutes, which is something that has never happened to me before. Before anyone says it was the session, forget it I have done the session the week before with the same weights and I did it today on purpose again. Last week with CTs, today Vibrams.
All I can say is that I can only recommend the shoe to anyone and I am actually pissed at myself for not buying these earlier.
BTW, if you don't buy them with the excuse that you are scared of getting laughed at at the gym, you are a f***ing pussy. Sorry. And now imagine what the same people would say to you when you would out-sprint them and dunk over them etc. :D
That is great news Rick. I have heard similar stories with Vibrams. Be wary that your feetmay get sore for a week or two. The number of positive stories I have heard is very impressive.
Thanks for the update

Ok, I hate to beat a dead horse on this one since the shoe situation is already kind of sorted out. I'm practically obsessed with footwear and ankle/foot function.
What if you have an athlete than plans on being tested for the power clean (regardless of the athlete, or situation), so essentially the individual NEEDS to power clean. I'm not quite sure that Vibrams would be safe to do any dynamic lifts, power variations especially. I would think squat variations would be more friendly to the feet, but we're talking power cleans. Go with the traditional oly shoe?

I am in favor of using an OLY shoe for Oly lifts. But everything else use a vibram. If you can remove compensation patterns than oly shoes are OK and since they should make up a small % of the program I see no problems.

hey alex, i know i asked you this awhile about what shoes to get. I've always worn bball sneakers, and i tried on the nike zoom waffles like you said to check out but they just felt real bad, i have very flat feet and my feet instantly were collapsing in and i knew that if i even tried to run or do anything in them i would sprain my ankle or something. So just wondering what you would recommend to get or if you had any other thoughts, i just want a light pair of sneakers not bulky like bball shoes that i can use for everyday wear, lifting, or some sprinting. Maybe cross trainers would be the type to look at, however i tried on a few stability running shoes at the store and actually bought the brooks shoe
i'm starting to think now after talking to adarqui, it doesn't make any sense to have those sneakers since i'm not interested in doing any long distance running however they do feel better than wearing the bball shoes i always wear as my feet don't collapse as much in them. Are their cross trainers or somethign i could buy that are geared more towards ppl with flat feet but that i could also be good using for everday, lifting, sprinting, etc?

You are correct re the track flats/waffles
I am not familiar with throwing shoes. My coworker lifts in his Vibrams and loves them. He has had no issues with them and he is pretty strong (600+ squat)
