Hi Mr. Wood

Glad you enjoyed the rant. We have a certified Crossfit guy working as a coach at our school.

Needless to say his teams form is horrid.

Good luck with the FMS, we have been trying to implement such a system for years and, surprisingly, the administration has thrown roadblocks in our way. So it is OK to deadlift with a rounded spine but not ok to assess mobility and strength imbalances...

All the best

Amen!

I am a fireman in fairfax County, Va and Crossfit is rampant. I used to see it at the gym and wonder why they were taking people that wouldn't get a 10 on a FMS doing cleans and split jerks, and overhead squats.

I am slowly trying to implement a system of movement screens during our yearly physicals that comes with a protocol for movement rehab. Good luck right....100 years of tradition unimpeded by progress.

Anyhow, I couldn't agree with this "rant" any more. It sounded is if I had recorded myself talking about crossfit.

Thank you for the read.

Yours in strength,

It has had some excellent reviews.

Here is an unsolicited comment on a sports performance site that can be found here:

http://wgfforum.llsint.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=679

"Have you purchased Alex's vert program? If not I would definitely recommend it. I used the theories in his blocks with a kid and saw unreal progress. It's cheap and has a ton of ideas you could use."

"The kid that actually showed up and did workouts for 9 months put on 13" on his SVJ. Never really measured with an approach but I would estimate 15-17". It was actually really impressive as we moved through the power/SPP phases and watched what he was able to do on the court.

I really recommend this program."

13 inches is insane. That is going from a 25" to a 38" vert in less than a year!

I dont think there is a "most effective" exercise. Personally, practicing your start is probably the most important thing you can do. Get the technique down perfectly and your time will drop tremendously. So I guess it is 10 yard starts. Primetimes, bounding, and ankle stiffness drills help a lot as well.

I like Barry's program. It is simple and fairly effective. It obviously lacks dynamic correspondence and the deadlift is hard to master with perfect position and proper hip extension. So I would recommend an RDL in stead, while working on core strength and mobility to get into and perform a proper deadlift. Include some primetimes in the warm up, and then alternate a block of Barrys program with a power/speed block with starts, primetimes, bounds, etc...
